Wyoming title loan law at a glance

Title loans in Wyoming are regulated by the Wyoming Division of Banking. Here is what state law says, in brief.

WYWyomingTitle loans allowed

License

Consumer Lender license under W.S. sec. 40-14-302/40-14-304 (the Wyoming Division of Banking's license-type list for consumer lending does not separately name 'title lender'); state law allows title loans, regulated as a form of secured consumer/supervised loan.

Rates

Wyoming has no separate motor-vehicle-title-loan statute or license category; a vehicle-title-secured consumer loan would be made under the general Consumer Lender / UCCC framework (see installment product) and would be classified as a supervised loan subject to the sec. 40-14-348 tiered rate cap (36 percent per year up to 1,000 dollars principal, 21 percent per year above that, or the alternative formula) if the rate exceeds 10 percent per year.

Fees

Same as installment/supervised-loan structure under sec. 40-14-348; no title-loan-specific fee schedule exists.

Before you borrow in Wyoming

  • Check the lender's license

Companies that offer title loans in Wyoming need a Consumer Lender license. Before you sign, you can confirm a company's license with the Wyoming Division of Banking.

  • Compare the whole cost

Look at the APR, the finance charge and the total of payments, not just the monthly payment. You can turn down any offer, and there's no penalty for paying early.

  • Know where to turn

If you have a problem with a lender, you can file a complaint with the Wyoming Division of Banking or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

  • Free help is out there

If a title loan isn't the right fit, a nonprofit credit counselor can help you make a plan for your bills, and legal aid gives free advice on debt problems. You can also reach 211 for local help with rent, utilities and food.

  3. Send your documents

Upload a photo ID, proof of income (at least $1,500/month) and your vehicle title.

  4. Get your cash

Once you're approved and sign, funds can be sent by direct deposit, check or wire, in as little as 24 hours.
